WEEKLY SCHEDULE

 

2020 - 2021

PSJC Hebrew School is planning to be online through at least February break 2021. Our synchronous programming will meet on Zoom and asynchronous learning will utilize platforms including ShalomLearning (Schoology), Padlet, Flipgrid, and our own website. It is our hope that students will have opportunities to connect in-person through socially-distant elective choices or small family groups/havurah at times throughout the year. 

2s/3s

Friday

PSJC's It's Friday will meet weekly by Zoom starting in October for music and Shabbat stories with Abe. Multiple and single-class registration is available.

 

PreK  (Shorashim)

We hope to offer a weekly PreK class beginning in October 2020, please contact us for more information or to join a mailing list.

Shorashim students explore Jewish values and holidays through hands-on projects and stories, as well as music and movement.

 

K - 2nd Grade

Tuesday afternoons will include:

  • An interactive Tefillah service that includes singing and movement.

  • Hebrew letters and Hebrew through Movement.

  • Mifgash, a 20 - 30 minute activity to explore a Jewish value with the LaBriut: To Our Health and Wellness Curriculum. Materials for hands-on projects will be available to be picked up (or delivered for an additional fee) five times during the year.

  • Each session will include a brain break with choices such as schmoozing with friends, having a dance party, or turning off the camera and taking a break.

3rd - 6th Grade

Wednesday afternoons will include:

  • An interactive Tefillah service that explores social-emotional layers of a different prayer each week in small groups, and learning a melody or interpretation of that prayer.

  • Hebrew classes for 3rd - 5th grade will include Hebrew through Movement and small group learning.Hebrew in 6th grade, may include some self-paced Hebrew skill-building, while some students move forward with bnai-mitzvah prayer goals.

  • A brain break with choices such as schmoozing with friends, having a dance party, collaborative doodling, or turning off the camera and taking a break.

  • 6th grade will have an in-depth exploration of Tzedakah, as they design a new version of the annual Tzedakah Fair through project based learning

 

Shabbat and Sunday mornings will include:

  • A 30-minute multi-age mifgash, encounter, to explore a Jewish value with the LaBriut: To Our Health and Wellness Curriculum. Materials for hands-on projects will be available to be picked up (or delivered for an additional fee) five times during the year.

  • Electives, including Junior Congregation, learning trope, and parsha games on Shabbat, and art, cooking, and music. When possible there may be options offered in the yard or park. 

 
 

7th Grade

Wednesday

4:00PM - 5:30PM

9:30AM - 10:30AM, followed by participation in the PSJC Torah Service.

Wednesday afternoons will include:

  • An interactive Tefillah service that explores social-emotional layers of a different prayer each week in small groups, and learning a melody or interpretation of that prayer.

  • Hebrew and tefillah skills

  • A project-based learning approach to understanding the blessings of the Amidah

Shabbat mornings will include:

  • Discussions and activities related to the weekly parsha and becoming a Jewish adult

  • Participation in PSJC Shabbat Torah Service

Shaarei Mitzvah virtual trips, speakers, and programs will be scheduled throughout the year.

 

Out of the Zoom Box

Families enrolled in this option will have the opportunity to pick up (or have delivered for an extra fee) five kits throughout the year with supplies to explore Jewish values through the LaBriut: To Our Health and Wellness Curriculum. There will be five remote meetings during the year to introduce each value for those who wish to join.

 

Students on the bnai mitvah path at PSJC in 5th grade and up will be expected to participate in self-paced Hebrew learning through our ShalomLearning portal.

One-on-One Hebrew

Students will have the opportunity to sign-up for a 15 minute, one-on-one or two-on-one Hebrew session each week. Final schedule will be dependent on student registration and teacher availability.
